The Blind Leading The Blind 🤭

When I was a child, I would intentionally navigate rooms in the dark. I would either close my eyes if it was still daytime or refuse to switch on the light bulb if night had come. I had a fascination with blind people and their way of living. I tried to learn braille one time but there was a limitation of learning devices for a seeing kid at the time. As I grew older, I lost the fascination but remained endeared to the physically challenged.

One thing I thoroughly believe is that all things work together for those who believe and are called according to His purpose. Every single decision we have made and will make is part of something cumulative bringing us to a particular point in our lives. We are not here by chance. We are not just coasting through life. There is a God and He is very mindful of us. He speaks to us in different ways and all we need to do is quieten our minds so we can listen through our spirit.

These past few months have been a drag for me. I was involved in a bit of emotional tug of war and one Saturday, it finally came to an end. Being in the gymnasium hurt and leaving the gymnasium also hurt. It was a very weird spot for me. One could liken it to  the proverbial fart mixed with salt in one’s mouth. However, Monday morning came and despite the pain in my chest, I went to work. However, let me backtrack and give you a rundown of events that led to a particular divine encounter I had that Monday. If one factor was missing, maybe I would not have had this encounter. However, God divinely ordered my steps so I was in the precise place at the right time.

About a week earlier, I had photographed a body mist I had, sent it as a Snapchat streak with a caption about it being absolutely divine. A close friend of mine then replied saying he wanted it and then accused me of not seeing him in a while. I decided to kill all the birds in my forest by making my hair on Saturday morning, seeing him in afternoon and taking the spray along for him. Saturday morning came and it witnessed me ending a situationship for the umpteenth time but finally. In a bid to escape, I left the house in a rush to the salon. Halfway there, I realised that I had left the mist at home. I resolved to go back home after making my hair before heading to see my friend.

While making my hair, my friend dragged me for trying to use our bonding time to do other things. I decided to forgo going home and instead rushed to his house. I explained to him why I forgot and told him that I would bring the spray after work on Monday. I kept to my word which counted as a slight detour from my usual schedule and while I was at his, I decided to make akara that afternoon. Walking home from the busstop , I went to my favourite mallam to buy milk and sugar. He did not have the sugar I wanted so I decided to walk to another shop just after my gate rather than buy the one he had. This is when it happened.

Just as I was walking to the shop, I saw a blind boy dart into the road. There was an oncoming car so I did what I believe anyone reading this article should do. I ran to him to help. I helped him cross safely to the other side and then asked him where he was headed. He was going to a place totally different from where we were and as the Lagos locator that I am, I plotted the best route, told him and decided to lead him to where he would get the first bus.

This boy could not see me but he could hear my voice and he followed my commands perfectly. We even successfully crossed a major road. Because it had rained earlier that day, there was pool of water at the bus park where he was to enter the first bus. It was a very tricky situation that involved one holding onto a bus and walking precariously on the edge of the pool but with my concise instructions and him carrying them out to the best of his abilities, we made it. I led him to the bus, gave the driver instructions and bid him farewell.

At that moment, I knew I had just had a divine encounter but I was yet to understand nor unable to explain it. It kept the pep in my step and I was happy and praising God. I believed the revelation would come later. Two days later, just as I was praising God during the midweek service in my church, it dropped and I finally understood.

In that situation, I was the blind boy and I was God. Confusing right? I had not seen God but I knew Him and heard His voice clearly. I received Christ at a very precise moment in my life. One where I might have done irreparable harm to myself if I continued in my old life. From that moment, God began to lead and protect me from harm including that which I might have caused myself. I was unable to see the big picture or His precise path for me but all I needed to do was trust Him because He could see. If I followed His concise instructions carefully, I would always find myself at the other side of the pool even if it seemed impossible at first.

I had just removed myself from a situation that could have been avoided from the get go. I was there feeling foolish and wondering why I didn’t listen initially. In the midst of all the pain and regret, God was telling me that He has held my hand and is leading me despite the road being busy and filled with puddles. All I needed to do was trust Him to get me to the destination I needed to be at even if it was not what I had in mind. It was comforting to know that even in my mistakes, God is still holding, comforting, speaking to and correcting me.

A particular song had been on replay all through the week I wrote this and the reason dawned on me just as I was writing.  The wonderful singer said “Even when I fall His hand, He’s still holding my hand. Lover of my soul, He will not break my heart”. Whew! No truer words have been sung. This song is an accurate description of me right now. Men might break your heart. People that you did not appoint in you might be disappointed because of your mistakes, however, God's love for you is pure, true and unwavering.

The moral of this blogpost is to remind us that all things are working for our good because He is intentional and never fails. A preacher once told me something so long ago and it has stuck with me ever since. He said “When God calls you, He makes provision for your shortcomings”. God sees the end before the beginning even starts and He calls you by what you will become and not what you are. This is why Gideon who was hiding to thresh his wheat was called a mighty warrior and despite him needing the fleece, God still won a mighty victory through him. Even Samson who believed that his strength was from his hair (this is why he was defeated) and did all sorts fulfilled the prophecy that had gone ahead of his birth and defeated more Philistines in his death than he ever did when alive.

For that person wondering when the set time is, I just want to remind you that you will fulfil prophecy. You will do all that God is set to achieve through you. You are prepared and strengthened for the work ahead. You are led by God always.

God is within you! You cannot fail.

Rooting for you as always ❤️

“God dwells in that city; it cannot be destroyed. From the very break of day, God will protect it.”

Thank you, Lelo. I learnt that as long as I learn to trust Jesus, I the blind will be led by Him and will keep leading other people to Him.

Thank you for the reminder to come to God just as you are, no need to try to come correct.
