I just want to remind you guys that the bible said forgive and forget. If Iāve not offended you people 77 times 7 times with my blogpost calendar, you have absolutely no reason to drag me. The kind of status updates I was seeing when the last blogpost went out ehn . Just because I missed February blogpost, you people dragged me by my dreads all around the town. Nawa o. You people should have mercy.
Now that elections are over, I can finally breathe and see road. If someone told me beginning of the year that I would be this serious about a Nigerian election, I would have laughed for a long while and told the person that he/she knew nothing about me. Initially, I was all about people registering for their PVCs. After that was done and the cards were ready, I campaigned for them picking their PVCs up. A few weeks to the elections, I started talking about exercising their civic right and going out to vote. After a while, a switch went off in my head and I started talking about the ruling party and all that was wrong with them. I kept emphasising the need for us to do better and choose better. Thatās how I couldnāt shut up again. Sincerely, 4 or 8 years is too long to use and do giveaway.
I was more particular about the Lagos Gubernatorial elections because it was more personal to me. LASG has shown me pepper in this life and I wanted omo boy out by all means. I am writing this the day before the elections so I donāt know if he actually is packing his bags as at when youāre reading this but Iām praying with everything that I have and am that he is. I really canāt stand him and all that he represents. (As I know the turnout, I'm sad o. I'm still very sad. See I cannot believe Sanwo is still my Governor. Like we had a choice and picked the one that irons jeans???? Guys I wanted to faint).
This election showed me that a lot of people arenāt worth their salt. I came across all manners of people on my contact list and it made me question if one really did know the people they interacted with. There were the tribalists which could be further broken down into the educated and ignorant. This opened my eyes and made me realise that education is not all that we think it is especially as a yardstick. In addition to IELTS, I strongly believe that we as Nigerians should be subjected to some sort of mental aptitude test when relocating. Funnily, I heard the worst things from those with actual doctorate degrees, one of my lecturers included. It was so funny to me because this same ruling party has kept students at home for years due to non-payment of your salary as a lecturer and yet you were boldly campaigning for them. It reminded me of this story below.
Sincerely, the federal government can never take ASUU serious because these are the same set of people who rush to read election results for them. Awon collation officers abi whatās that their job again? Well, what could one expect? A lot of lecturers either practice sex for grades or buy my textbook/handout for extra marks. Itās really disheartening to see what our education system has resulted to. Sigh.
Concerning the ignorant ones, I have only one thing to say. My people perish for lack of knowledge. No be me write am. Itās in the Bible. I really wish the scales could fall from the eyes of my fellow men but poverty has been wielded as a tool and you cannot help people who are yet to understand that they need help. All Iāll say on this issue is that, if you call yourself a Christian and you are a tribalist, you are yet to understand what Christianity is and you need to seek forgiveness from God then ask Him to teach you about love.
The next set of people I encountered are the thieves and greedy people. Those that know the truth but will rather side with lies because of their own personal benefit. There are the ones hoping for appointments, a few of these I know personally. Others, like one yahoo brother I encountered, do not want the progress of the economy because in his words āIf PO turns the economy around and dollar becomes N100, when I get a $50 gift card, it means that itās N5000 I will receive and I donāt want small moneyā. This made me wonder what exactly we are teaching in our universities because this person is a BSc holder. How can you not understand the principle and value of money? That that N5000 will have more value and buy more things? Like how can you be a foolish thief? Sigh!
The last set of people I encountered are the cowards. The ones who enjoy sitting on the fence. The āAll of them are bad. Thereās no saint among themā squad. The āI have my PVC but I wonāt vote. My vote will not change anythingā people. The āDonāt stress yourself. Nigeria does not care about you. These politicians are all the sameā men and women. The ones that refused to get a PVC are not left out of this category. I think for me, this is the most painful lot of them all. The fact that you have the power in your hands but you chose to not exercise it but instead you sit in your various homes and grumble about things. I really wish I could club these ones over the head. A lot of us fall into this category. The ones that never stand up for the truth. The ones that never say anything in the face of injustice. The ones that see people being bullied and turn the other way. The first two people in the bible story of the Good Samaritan. This set of people made me realise that maybe we were not any different from the Israelites. Despite all God gave them, they did nothing with it and grumbled all day long in the desert. Even when they were to take their promise land, they complained about the size of the people in the land and their walls. They kept forgetting Who was with them and what He was capable of. They still even killed the prophets God sent to them. Well, my prayer is that Nigeria never happens to you and makes you realise you need to take a stand. I pray you never lose anyone or even yourself to the incompetence of the government.
To those that did the right thing and voted who their conscience said was the right person while putting into consideration all the evidence produced for each candidate, I say well done. Iām very proud of you. Ordinary to register for PVC no be beans. Rain came, wind blew but you stayed gidigba and casted your votes. For those that were victims of intimidation and violence, Iām sorry you had to go through that. God is definitely working on this country and soon, the groans of childbirth will bring forth the cry of a healthy child. I believe in Nigeria. I believe in the power of Nigerians. I believe in you. Thank you for doing the right thing.
Irrespective of the category you might fall in, please stay safe, drink lots of water, mind your business, praise God and pray for Nigeria. Very soon, we will see things get better and eat the good of the land.
Remember always, God has blessed you but if you voted for a particular party, avoid me pleaseā¤ļø
